IVIG

Mechanism:

IVIG is an intravenous blood product composed of immunoglobulins which provide defenses against various autoimmune disorders and also boost immunity in patients with severe immunodeficiency.

Indications:

  • IgG deficiency disorders such as Common Variable Immunodeficiency
  • Autoimmune disorders such as Idiopathic thrombocytopenia Purpura, Dermatomyositis, Kawasaki disease, Myasthenia Gravis, Multiple sclerosis and Guillain-Barre syndrome.

Contraindications:

Patients with IgA deficiency should not receive IVIG.

Administration:

IVIG is typically administered as an infusion and frequency depends on the condition and will be determined by the referring physician.
