PROLASTIN (also known as Alpha1-Proteinase Inhibitor)
Mechanism:
Prolastin is a concentrated preparation of Alpha-1 proteinase inhibitor, which is an important factor in protecting the lungs from degradation.
Indications:
Patients with congenital deficiency of Alpha-1 proteinase inhibitor and clinical manifestation of emphysema.
Contraindications:
Prolastin is contraindicated in individuals with selective IgA deficiency.
Administration:
Prolastin is typically administered as a weekly infusion. The duration of treatment is determined by the pulmonologist but can range up to 10 weeks.
